Angela Scherer, D.V.M., graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness. She received a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Missouri-Columbia College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Scherer completed a Small Animal Medicine and Surgery Internship at Veterinary Specialty Services in St. Louis, Missouri. In 2002, she began a Small Animal Surgery Residency at Veterinary Specialty Services in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Scherer has also worked in private practice and joined the Vet Tech Institute at Hickey College as the Program Director.
Pamela Zurfluh, D.V.M., obtained an Associate of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology from Jefferson College. She then attended the University of Missouri-Columbia where she received a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Zurfluh has spent the last eighteen years working in private practice and joined the staff at the Vet Tech Institute at Hickey College where she teaches Surgical Nursing classes, Anesthesia, and provides medical care for the kennel animals in the program.
Elizabeth Cook, RVT, graduated from Concordia University-Wisconsin with a Bachelor of Art in Parish Music. She went on to complete her Associate of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology at Madison Area Technical College. She has worked as a veterinary technician assistant for Lodi Veterinary Hospital, a certified veterinary technician at The Veterinary Specialty Hospital of the Carolinas (VSH), and as a registered veterinary technician at Kingsbury Animal Hospital. Mrs. Cook joined the staff of the Vet Tech Institute at Hickey College and teaches courses in Veterinary Medical Terminology, Animal Technology, and Clinical Medicine. Her experience in both specialty and general practice has given her a variety of skills that she can pass on to her students.
Robin Graham, RVT, graduated with honors from the Vet Tech Institute at Hickey College with a Veterinary Technician Associate Degree. She helped implement the Student Chapter National Association of Veterinary Technician’s in America (SCNAVTA) at the college and served as the first class president. Ms. Graham previously worked at Veterinary Specialty Services and joined the Vet Tech Institute where she is an instructor and Kennel Manager teaching courses in Animal Technology and Anatomy and Physiology.
Andrea Kohnen, RVT, graduated from Lincoln Memorial University with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science with a concentration in Business. She teaches courses in Clinical Pathology and Clinical Medicine and is the Student Council Advisor at the Vet Tech Institute at Hickey College. Along with the students, she helped develop the SCNAVTA program for the college. She worked at Horseshoe Lake Animal Hospital as a technician prior to working at Hickey College. Her clinical experience has aided her in developing laboratory and communication skills required to be a successful veterinary technician.
Maggie Lauer, RVT, graduated from Jefferson College with an Associate of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology and passed her national and state board exams to become a registered veterinary technician in Missouri. During her 2 years at Jefferson College she was the class president of the Student Chapter National Association of Veterinary Technician’s in America (SCNAVTA). She started her career as a veterinary assistant at the Red Bud Veterinary Clinic. Once she received her license she obtained a job at the Warrenton Veterinary Clinic. Mrs. Lauer now enjoys teaching students in Clinical Laboratory and Surgical Nursing classes from her experience working in a clinic setting.
Jessica Lindley, M.S., RVT, graduated from Murray State University Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and a Master of Science Degree. Ms. Lindley has worked in both large and small animal medicine as well as in the research industry. Ms. Lindley has a focus in equine and livestock medicine and enjoys teaching the Large Animal Theory and Practicum courses as well as courses in Animal Technology and the Veterinary Technician National Exam Preparation Course.
Sarah Pierce, RVT, graduated Suma Cum Laude from Jefferson College with an Associate of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology and became a registered technician in the state of Missouri the same year. She joined the staff at the Vet Tech Institute at Hickey College in 2008 as a full time instructor. Prior to her teaching position, she worked as a registered veterinary technician, office manager, and positive reinforcement dog trainer. Mrs. Pierce teaches courses in Animal Technology, Clinical Medicine, and Anatomy & Physiology. Her background allows her the versatility to instruct students in the many different aspects of veterinary technology.
Deborah Wilson, RVT, earned her Associate degree in Applied Animal Science at Columbia State Community College in Columbia, Tennessee. Ms Wilson has worked in the veterinary profession for twenty-eight years, most recently in a specialty referral practice as technician supervisor. She joined the Vet Tech Institute at Hickey College and teaches courses in Animal Technology, Radiography, Clinical Medicine and Pharmacology.
J. Brita Hughes, CVT, graduated from the Vet Tech Institute at Hickey College with honors, and was treasurer of SCNAVTA as a student. She is currently the Kennel Manager and SCNAVTA Advisor at the Vet Tech Institute at Hickey College. She has worked as a technician at Hillside Animal Hospital where her hands-on kennel experience as a student helps Ms. Hughes support and encourage the students through the program.
